Polkadot (dot) is a blockchain platform and cryptocurrency that connects multiple specialized blockchain into a unified network. Polkadot implements cross -chain communication and interoperability between different blockchain, so that they can share data and functions without intermediary or centralized party. Polkadot uses a piece architecture, including four core components: relay chain, parallel chain, parallel thread and bridge. Polkadot's local token DOT is used for pledge, governance, binding and bridge. Polkadot was founded in 2017 by Web3 Foundation and Parity Technologies as part of their vision for decentralized networks.
